Description

 – The Music School of Delaware weThe concert and interactive program is part of the Music School’s celebrated Cultural Crossroads Series, which is coordinated by Music School faculty member, Chris Braddock. This promises to be a fun trip back in time to the Decade of Excess, when music, fashion and hair were BIG!  The concert will feature two headlining artists – Noelle Picara and The Raymond Lee Band – who will perform classic ’80’s hits by The Cure, Peter Gabriel, Whitney Houston, Ozzy Osbourne, Poison, and more. There will be an onstage fashion show (with prizes) for audience members to flaunt their leggings, shoulder pads, teased hair and other period-correct items to a purely ’80s soundtrack. A dance workshop, taught by professional dance instructor Erika Brown, will allow audience members to work on their dance moves from the most ’80’s of music videos – Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Finally, a trivia game show will test patrons’ knowledge of the era’s cultural highlights from Duran Duran to Iran-Contra.”I grew up in the ’80’s and remember well the diversity of the music, the inception of MTV, the colorful clothes, and the crazy, crazy hair,” says Music School Dean, Cheri Astolfi. “I can’t wait to revisit these years and spend an afternoon re-experiencing my teens.””We’ve been thinking about a program like this for well over a year,” notes Braddock, who also serves at the Department Head for The Studio (rock, jazz, and folk programming) at the Music School. “I’ve heard it said that the 1980s were the last time that we knew how to have a good time. For me, it was my most formative time growing up, so it’s a bit tough to be objective.”In any case, Braddock says, it will be fun to whittle down the essence of an entire decade into a 90-minute event. “It will be interesting to see what people respond to and if they think we left anything ‘critical’ out.”Tickets are limited! Big Hair, Don’t CareAn ’80s Retrospective tickets are $10/$5 students & seniors, available now at https://www.musicschoolofdelaware.org/event-ticketing.html.The Music School of Delaware is committed to artist and audience safety, and numerous protocols are in place.
