Peoples Festival Announces Free Admission for 2018

Indoor/Outdoor Street Festival will take over Market Street in Downtown Wilmington and Live Nation’s The Queen on 7/28!

The 24th Annual People’s Festival Tribute to Bob Marley will take place on July 28th at 2 p.m. in the heart of downtown Wilmington across N Market St. Featuring live entertainment inside The Queen located at 500 N Market St. in addition to the street festival across the plaza. For the first time in the festival’s history, admission is FREE to the public.

In partnership with Live Nation, the city’s most-anticipated summer event will host performances by Jamaica’s Queen of Reggae ETANAThe Meditations and ska phenomena The Hip Abduction inside The Queen starting at 7 p.m. (limited space available). 

The  dynamic street fair will offer an international food court with Caribbean cuisine specials, Red Stripe beverages, as well as dozens of craft vendors. The Delaware Art Museum will also host the Children’s Village where kids of all ages can participate in creating a drum, masks and other relative activities. A bamboo rain hut, healing garden, and six band performances across the plaza stage until 10 p.m.

Robert Nesta Marley (A.K.A. Bob Marley) rose to star-status by delivering his message of tolerance globally through the power of music with hits like “One Love,” “Three Little Birds,” and “Redemption Song”. At the request of Marley’s beloved mother, Ibis, Pitts brought the first Marley tribute to fruition in 1995. It is the mission of People’s Festival to bring a world-class Reggae celebration to the community of Wilmington as it was Marley’s adopted hometown outside of Jamaica.  Since establishment, thousands of people continue to attend this unique promotion of peace, love, and unity including local rising talent and international icons such as; Richie Havens, KRS 1, Damien “Junior Gong” Marley, Toots & The Maytals, Luciano, Third World, SOJA, Slightly Stoopid, and more.
