“Great food. I love their home made pasta. Always a hearty meal and friendly service.”
R.T. – Wilmington, DE

In the year 1940 most women were content keeping house and taking care of husbands and children. It was then that Mrs. Tresilla Robino not only looked after her husband and family but also cooked for many husbands and fathers who were on there own in America waiting for the rest of their families to immigrate. Tresilla always had company at her house at dinner time. Someone suggested she open a restaurant and it was then that Mrs. Robino’s was established. At 1903 Howland Street with only a few tables set up in her basement, lines of people started to form out her front door!

When her home on Howland Street became to small to meet the demands of the business she and her husband bought 520 North Union Street where the restaurant is located today. Her family moved upstairs and the business was set up downstairs. There were tables on each side of the building leading back to the kitchen. Many nights people would eat with other patrons standing right next to their table. The building she purchased now serves as the entrance, first room and kitchen of the current restaurant. Looking around the room you will see many of the original features from 1940 when the restaurant began.

When Mrs. Tresilla Robino passed away in 1967 the restaurant was taken over by her daughter Josephine (Pina) Robino Minuti and her grandson Joseph F. Minuti. Josephine and Joseph worked hard to expand the business and over the past 30 years bought the properties where Mrs. Robino’s Restaurant sits today.

Pina worked on a daily basis in all aspects of the business. Whether she was making pasta or sauce or counting the daily receipts she was happiest in the restaurant. She was a permanent fixture for the last 30 years of her life sitting by the kitchen door making sure the business ran smoothly. Her mother would be so proud to know that she kept her memory alive and the business thriving. Pina recently passed in April 2006. Her spirit is still alive and her picture will remain near the seat that she occupied for so many years. We all miss her very much!

Josephine wanted to preserve what her mother began and made sure to teach her niece Robin Robino Mabrey and grandson Joseph A. Minuti the secret recipes and the special ingredients that make Mrs. Robino’s pasta so delicious. They both manage Mrs. Robino’s Restaurant’s daily operations along with some help from Joe’s sister, Andrea Minuti Wakefield. Pina was loved by Yolanda Capriglione who was trained in the kitchen by her mother and who has been with the restaurant for over 50 years and always asked her to keep working even if she were to pass. We can not forget our every present legal advisor, Mark Minuti who also worked throughout college and law school at Mrs. Robino’s.

Mrs. Robino’s has customer’s that have been patronizing our restaurant since we opened the doors in 1940! We are proud to hear people tell their children that they came to Robino’s when they were children. Thank you for helping us create a family tradition in Delaware ! How many years have you been eating at Robino’s? Please join our family for lunch or dinner any day of the week. We promise to continue to provide outstanding pasta to our customers for many years to come!
