The Delaware College of Art and Design is Delaware’s first and only professional art and design school. DCAD was founded in 1997 as a collaborative effort between Pratt Institute in New York and the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, DC. DCAD offers the Associate of Fine Arts Degree in Animation, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design and Photography. In its first year of operation, DCAD enrolled 50 full-time degree students. The school now enrolls 220 full-time students, more than half of whom live in college-sponsored housing in downtown Wilmington. In addition, DCAD offers a Continuing Education Program for aspiring and professional artists and designers from high school-aged and older in the areas of Computer Graphics, Fine Arts, Interior Design, Jewelry Design, Photography and Young Artists (for high school students).
