Set amidst the colorful backdrop of mid-20th century New York City, Rebel in the Rye follows a young Salinger (Nicholas Hoult) as he struggles to find his voice, pursues a love affair with famed socialite Oona O’Neill (Zoey Deutch), and fights on the frontlines of World War II.

It’s these experiences that will inform the creation of his masterpiece, The Catcher in the Rye, bringing him overnight fame (and notoriety) and leading him to withdraw from the public eye for the rest of his life.

Costarring Kevin Spacey and Sarah Paulson, Rebel in the Rye offers a tantalizing window into the life and times of a little-understood genius who broke the rules and redefined American literature.

Rated PG-13, 100 minutes

This observational documentary follows a year in the lives of two inspirational teachers at Headfort, the only primary-age boarding school in Ireland.

Housed in an 18th century estate, school life embraces tradition and modernity. For John, rock music is just another subject alongside Maths, Scripture and Latin, taught in a collaborative and often hilarious fashion. For his wife Amanda, the key to connecting with children is the book, and she uses all means to snare the young minds.

For nearly half a century these two have shaped thousands of minds, but now the unthinkable looms: what would retirement mean? What will keep them young if they leave?

With a studio in Philadelphia and a house in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, Jon Redmond’s current show offers a fresh view of his popular subject matters of choice, urban architecture and still lifes that juxtapose the natural and man-made.  Unusual angles and the absence of figures blur the difference between residential dwellings and commercial businesses, but pops of bright color pull the viewer’s attention through the windows to the vibrant energy that undoubtedly exists within.  He finds complex angles and shapes in his subject matter and showcases them in his paintings. These forms, whether created by dramatic shadows or fleeting rays of sunshine, come together to create the abstract compositions he enjoys most. He also recognizes the beauty and simplicity of light falling on the objects he chooses for his still lifes. Redmond ultimately seeks to capture his viewer’s interest by interpreting subjects through his distinctive, painterly style.
