Join us for the 6th Annual Truck and Tractor Day at Winterthur—a fun day filled with lots of large equipment sure to delight the wheel-oriented kids in your family. Explore tractors, modern farm vehicles, and the Winterthur fire trucks. Enjoy a hayride, arts and crafts, and more!
- Discover 30 tractors and other pieces of estate equipment.
- Hop onto one of the original Winterthur farm trucks and see how a modern backhoe and crane work. Feel free to take pictures and ask our knowledgeable staff and volunteers questions.
- Learn about the Winterthur Fire Department!
- Meet our firefighters and put out a “fire” with our pumper truck. Hop aboard the fire truck and try on real “turnout gear.”
- Enjoy a hotdog, pretzels, and ice cream!
- Take a hayride through the estate!
- Enjoy the beautiful autumn weather and changing leaves.
- Climb a tree!
- Put on a safety harness and climb a tree, just like a real arborist.
- Get creative with farm- and tractor-related crafts.
- Look for helmets, badges, and coloring book giveaways!
Proceeds support the Winterthur Fire Department.

Ahoy Mateys! Come Sail on Kalmar Nyckel, the Tall Ship of Delaware. Landlubbers — come walk the plank of this authentic seagoing re-creation of a 17th-Century Dutch Pinnace. Our crew don pirate and sailor garb, and guests are encouraged to dress up as well! The kids will enjoy a pirate story or help raise the Jolly Roger, and the adults will enjoy a history talk. Both kids and adults can try their hand at a scavenger hunt with a treasure at the end! See the ship's cannons and imagine being at the helm of this magnificent vessel. Dig into two very different gardens – one fed the du Pont family and the other DuPont Company workers in the nineteenth century. This tour explores the socioeconomic factors influencing the architecture, produce, and the philosophies of each garden. Tour involves walking on uneven ground.
