Starkly influenced by '60s folk/culture, blues and jazz, Victoria Spaeth and the Spaeth Cadets sing and play with raw energy and unadulterated emotion. Carol King-esque melodies, Simon and Garfunkel-tinged instrumentals and Ani DiFranco-infused lyrics are evident in the group's sound while they draw inspiration from the world around them.

A collaboration between veterans of the Philadelphia folk, trip-hop, bluegrass, R&B and musical theater scenes, A Fistful of Sugar convened in late 2010 to solve all the world's problems with pretty little tunes. So far, so good. Centered around strong, lush vocal harmonies and driving "new folk" instrumentals, the product is a distinctly modern sound that resonates with echoes of 1930s hot jazz, traditional 'old-timey' country, gypsy jazz, and other roots music.

At 29, Ross Bellenoit has already forged quite a career path, racking up impressive credits as a guitarist, composer and producer. After moving to Philadelphia in 2003, Bellenoit quickly became the leading axe-man for a thriving singer-songwriter scene. More recently, he's been making his mark as a songwriter himself, and also as a recording producer and arranger. Bellenoit announces the release of the first of three EPs to be issued this year, entitled "Home Songs". Each EP comprises six songs, self-produced and recorded at his home in South Philadelphia, a set of literate, folk-pop compositions that straddle the line between the junkyard blues of Tom Waits’ disjunctive grooves and 80s new-wave nerd-pop.
