Charlie Hunter grew up in Berkeley, CA, where he studied under Joe Satriani and his influences were Joe Pass and Tuck Andress, both adept at sounding like two guitarists at once. Hunter took it a step further and devised an 8-string guitar on which he could be both guitarist and bassist. With a Leslie-style rotary speaker, he produced a sound akin to a Hammond organ. His sound has since evolved to a distortion-based blues.

Since the debut of Charlie Hunter Trio in '93, Hunter has recorded 17 albums and worked with Miles Perkins, Les Claypool, John Ellis, Bobby Previte, Leon Parker, Mos Def, Norah Jones, Adam Cruz, and John Mayer to name just a few.
