The Delaware Art Museum commissioned a project by New York-based artist Hank Willis Thomas which explores identity, history, and the actions motivating contemporary society. Thomas will interpret and employ archival materials from the Delaware Historical Society and photographs of the 1968 demonstrations and National Guard occupation in Wilmington taken by News Journalstaff for the creation of a new work of art. Thomas’ work will engage the viewer in analyzing hidden histories from Wilmington’s challenging past.
