What’s IN Weekend Round Up: December 1-7

Sarah Yeoman Totem IN Wilmington

Strand of Oaks plays an intimate solo performance tonight at Gild Hall and while I’m used to seeing Tim Showalter blow the roof off of a place, I have to admit I’m really looking forward to seeing what this seated performance has in store.

There’s so much to do tomorrow night during Art on the Town that it almost isn’t fair to pick favorites, but alas, here they are:

  • Sarah Yeoman’s a watercolorist from Delaware with a wide range of subjects but Totem at the Mezzanine Gallery is exclusively for the birds – crows and ravens that is…

  • Poppycock is turning 7… SEVEN! Naturally, they highlighted their own artists to celebrate during this special Anniversary Show.

  • Serendipitea is the quiet, soft opening of Levitea West that we CAN’T STOP SCREAMING FROM THE ROOFTOPS!

  • And I’d be remiss not to mention the annual Taste of Holidays & Contemporary Craft Show at The Delaware Contemporary. $1 tastings benefiting LLS, plus, 14 local artists. Oh, and an electric violinist. Boom.

Alternative Art Loop plans? Premier Wine & Spirits has partnered with Out & About to bring you an INteractive tasting experience at Penn Cinema. Enjoy a screening of the National Lampoon’s classic Christmas Vacation after working your way through some delicious samples from Dogfish Head – all to benefit the DuPont Environmental Education Center and Delaware Nature Society.

City Theater Company kicks off their rendition of La Cage aux Folles this weekend at The Black Box Theatre in Wilmington, and when you get to know CTC as well as I now do, it’s safe to say this is going to be an excellent interpretation of The Birdcage – and one we will not soon forget. The hilarity continues through December 17th.

Wilmington Ballet Academy of the Dance presents their annual holiday performance of The Nutcracker at The Playhouse on Rodney Square this Saturday and Sunday – that’ll be for THE 50TH YEAR IN A ROW! So, if you haven’t seen it by now – it’s safe to say it’s time.

The Big Little Art Show takes over Talleyville Frame Shoppe Saturday night featuring over 50 artists and 200 works – 6×6 inches – perfect for gifts but really just cute, cool and simply one of my favorite art shows of the year.

There’s so much more to do this weekend I’m in agony about all I left out…. Let us know what you got INto #inWilm this weekend!
