Taking IN a Summer Concert on the Riverfront

Shipyard Summer Concert Series IN Wilmington

“Weather-wise it’s such a cuckoo day”… a rainy weather forecast didn’t stop many Sinatra fans from celebrating the music of Ol’ Blue Eyes last Thursday night in downtown Wilmington. The latest installment of this summer’s nine-week Shipyard Summer Concert Series in Tubman-Garrett Park on Wilmington’s Christina River featured Tony Sands, a lifelong fan and long-time Sinatra performer.

Bringing Sinatra’s songs to life with beautiful musicianship and a commanding and entertaining stage presence, the show opened with “Come Fly With Me,”  followed by a myriad of classics throughout the hour and half set, including “I’ve Got The World on A String,” “My Way,” and a captivating performance of “New York, New York.”

Concertgoers were treated to anecdotes and stories between songs, adding to the authentic experience which set Sands apart as a true entertainer.

Dancing and singing fans were eager to interact with the singer, who chose to move about the park instead of performing from a stage, his charming persona delighting Sinatra fans of all ages. All in all, the atmosphere made the evening feel more like a celebration than a concert.

The Shipyard Summer Concert Series features a wide variety of musical acts, and provides fun for the whole family in a relaxed outdoor setting. You can catch the remaining free concert installments Thursday nights through August 31st from 7-8:30PM in Tubman-Garrett Park.

Those who attend can look forward to experiencing rock, funk, oldies, jazz, and blues in the series’ remaining concerts, all while being surrounded by the beautiful and peaceful scenery of Wilmington’s unparalleled Riverfront district.
